Ideastone History

Hello, my name is Brian Knapp and I'm the president of Ideastone LLC. Have you ever wondered what makes something successful? What makes a company great? Why can two similar ideas achieve such different levels of success? Why are businesses created? Have you ever asked yourself those questions?

I did. That is how Ideastone got started. It really happened years ago when I saw that not all businesses reward their people appropriately. Yet, the businesses that did right by their employees seemed to do better overall than those businesses that were driven by greed. It's an odd situation really. In a society where greed seems to be touted as the greater good, people would do well to realize the destructive force of greed.

I took notice. I noticed Enron and the various other incidents of robbers and thieves taking for themselves, only to leave others with nothing. Even now we see the unsustainable nature of irresponsible capitalism in our modern day economy with the unchecked failures in the real estate lending market.

I made a decision. I decided that a company needed to exist that would be founded on principles of ethics and social responsibility instead of greed. At the same time I came to the realization that in the modern working environment, religious and spiritual discussions are somewhat discouraged. It has become somewhat taboo to mention God in relation to business, yet the absence of any ethical, moral, or religious guidelines for a business seems to be leading to the idea that it is acceptable for a business to do anything as long as it is not illegal regardless of social or moral repercussions.

I realized that to create a truly socially responsible enterprise, my company would need to be based on a set of moral values that are honest, socially responsible, and sustainable for the long term success of the business and anyone involved in the business. To that end, I chose to base the business around the same Christian biblical principles that I strive to live my life by.

What It All Means

What does that mean for Ideastone? Well it means that Ideastone was created with a greater purpose than just to make money. It was created to make other businesses and the community around it more sustainable and successful. It means that Ideastone employees can live out their faith in their work as well as at their church and in their homes. It means that the work that Ideastone does will make a difference in the lives of others because of the example that Jesus Christ gave us to live by.

Those are the ideas that sparked Ideastone. Now, we are taking other ideas that we have and are nurturing them in a way that we think can make a positive difference in the world. That is our history so far.
