Up at the top of the site you’ll notice that we have some nice links to information about the Ideastone company history, philosophy, and even press releases, but what does Ideastone actually do? That’s kind of a major oversight on my part, so I’m going to explain it as simply as possible. (more…)

Fleabay is Now OnlineAuction.me
July 21, 2008 by Brian Knapp
For the past year we’ve been working on a little project we called Fleabay. It was always meant to be a social community built around online auctions. With the recent release of the .me domain extension, we had the opportunity to acquire a much more fitting domain. When .me went live last week, even though other people had a lot of trouble acquiring great new domain names, when the dust settled we landed a few good ones. The new domain and branding for the Fleabay project is now OnlineAuction.me.
OnlineAuction.me is a real gem. It really fits the social aspects of the site much better than Fleabayit.com did. When building OnlineAuction.me the focus was always on serving the end user better and building around the social aspects os online auctions. OnlineAuction.me encompases the project philosophies in one easy to remember domain. How can it get much better than that?
I’m extremely proud of the new site and as time goes on it just keeps getting better and better. We’ve come a long way in a relatively short period of time and the site keeps improving every day. Please take time to check out OnlineAuction.me and leave a comment below with any feedback you have.
Fleabay Gets A Makeover
June 28, 2008 by Brian Knapp
Hey everybody, I just wanted to let you know that we’ve made some tweaks to Fleabay. Actually, we’ve completely revamped the format. Instead of using Pligg, we have rewrote Fleabay to use our own custom software. What we’ve done is actually have a fresh start at the whole concept of Fleabay. Our whole idea behind the site originally was to create a site that let people find and share interesting eBay auctions. Using pligg just didn’t get the job done, so we’re moving on. (more…)

Hey all, l just wanted to let you know that Ideastone has moved its blogging efforts behind Wordpress. We’ve converted our in-house software to Wordpress so that we can do two things. One, not re-invent the wheel. Two, support open source software. (more…)
Tackling Domain Name Rot
June 2, 2008 by Brian Knapp
As a web business, it is easy to buy lots of domains. They are cheap to buy, hosting them costs nothing extra, and you never know when that next great idea will explode. Then again, you never know if you’ll actually ever develop that great domain in your portfolio. I call this phenomenon domain rot. (more…)
Twitter Has Scalibility Issues
May 21, 2008 by Brian Knapp
The other day I sent a friend to this site and they said it wouldn’t load. Interestingly, twitter has been flakey lately. As it turns out Twitter is experiencing some catastrophic scaling issues so it would seem. Connection? Yep. We pull our rss feed from Twitter for the Twitterfeed in the sidebar and guess what, if you can’t ping twitter the code just waits for twitter to load eventually. Oops, right? (more…)
Google and Amazon as Utility Companies
May 20, 2008 by Brian Knapp
For the last few years I’ve been hearing about Amazon’s Elastic Cloud Computing initiative. It intrigues me because isn’t Amazon.com just another e-commerce provider? As it turns out they aren’t an e-commerce company. They are a tech company financed by a very successful e-commerce website. So what does that mean Amazon really does? Utility computing and services. (more…)
Site Update: Better Twitter Integration
May 10, 2008 by Brian Knapp
Just a quick heads up for everybody, In the quest to improve this site, I’ve added a little bit better twitter integration in the sidebar. Instead of using the incredibly slow twitter widget, we are cleaning up and repurposing the feed ourselves. It’s cleaner, faster, and just overall better than old widget. What’s not to love about an improvement like that?
Google AdWords and Yahoo! Search Marketing Certified
May 7, 2008 by Brian Knapp
Many times in business people get certifications to prove their worth to a perspective employeer, client, or even just themselves. Often these certifications can be easily attained by anyone who can read a book and memorize a practice test. As you may have noticed in the sidebar of this site, I’ve managed to become certified by both Google AdWords and Yahoo Search Marketing. (more…)
